“A Retrospective”

Non-representational Romanticism in Color

Born in New York City, Richard W Forster began painting in oils at age 9. Trained at the High School of Art and Design, Pratt Institute, and The Art Students League, his early work evolved from surrealism to the vibrant, expressive style inspired by the New York School painters of the 1940s-50s.

Now based in the Hudson Valley, Forster creates what he calls Non-representational Romanticism, dynamic, colorful works that shift with each viewing, evoking emotional, dramatic, and sometimes erotic undertones.

His paintings are held in private collections and celebrated for their fearless use of form and color.

Celebrate the life and artistry of Richard with Woodstock Spa and Jaime Surgil, his devoted partner, at the opening of "A Retrospective" on Friday, August 8th, from 5 to 7 PM.
